「離開，可以是積極的探索。」2003年，17歲的中四女生陶嘉韜－蕃茄，經歷了一次生命中的巨大轉變。短短時間，蕃茄面臨父母離異、家道中落、寄人籬下，甚至從國際學校轉到傳統的英青中學。但蕃茄的內心總抱持一個嚮往：離開家裡、離開香港，逃離到幻想中的美麗異地。後來蕃茄遇上了在新學校的少年犯－小青…為了實現夢想，蕃茄和小青加入了一個業餘劇團，並排練一齣主題圍繞「去留」的舞台劇。然而，排練得如火如荼之時SARS爆發…「離開，亦可以是消極的逃避。」17年後，新冠肺炎肆虐，蕃茄因收到父親在港染上肺炎的消息而急忙回港。無獨有偶，孤獨的蕃茄和小青收到導演歐陽柊的聯繫。導演希望在疫情之中重演當年的那胎死腹中的舞台劇，完成2003年那個舞台上的夢。「人生是一個圓，到了某個時間點，就會像週期般循環。」兩場疫情之間，就有如人生好運與厄運的週期交替。人生跑道上的人來了又去，但總能找到步伐一致，願意同行的夥伴。
